The 6 Nations is the only tournament that Ireland competes in annually. The Irish were part of the original Home Nations when the tournament began in 1883, and won their first championship in 1894 which included the Triple Crown. Ireland has won the Grand Slam on two occasions – in 1948 and in 2009, when they were simply unbeatable. Overall, Ireland have won the 6 Nations 11 times outright and shared it on 8 occasions.
Ireland contests the Millennium Trophy against England during the Six Nations.
