The newest entrants to the 6 Nations, Italy made their debut in 2000 on a positive note by defeating Scotland in their first game of the tournament. In 2004 and 2004 they managed to finish fifth overall, ahead of Wales and Scotland respectively. In 2007, Italy earned its first away win the 6 Nations when they defeated Scotland at Murrafield. They followed up this performance with a win over Wales and ended the 2007 season in fourth place, their best ever showing. As part of the 6 Nations, Italy and France compete for the Guiseppe Garibaldi Trophy.
